   Mindset by Carol Dweck

How it helped me:

Carol Dweck beautifully shares her research with the world. This was the book that launched me on my current path and made me realize what I was capable of. She answers the questions you have about mindsets and helps you reflect about where you are.

Book Description:

After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.

Limitless Mind by Jo Boaler

How it helped me:

This book was recommended to me by one of my teachers! I will tell you my favorite parts when I read it!

Book Description:

In this In this revolutionary book, a professor of education at Stanford University and acclaimed math educator who has spent decades studying the impact of beliefs and bias on education, reveals the six keys to unlocking learning potential, based on the latest scientific findings. From the moment we enter school as children, we are made to feel as if our brains are fixed entities, capable of learning certain things and not others, influenced exclusively by genetics. This notion follows us into adulthood, where we tend to simply accept these established beliefs about our skillsets (i.e. that we don’t have “a math brain” or that we aren’t “the creative type”). These damaging—and as new science has revealed, false—assumptions have influenced all of us at some time, affecting our confidence and willingness to try new things and limiting our choices, and, ultimately, our futures.

    Grit by Angela Duckworth

How it helped me:

It made me realize how much I love the brain, mindsets and soccer! One of my favorite ideas from the book is the idea of choosing something that is easy for you to do or something you love. Then work hard at that thing, whatever it may be. And then finally, pay it forward! Share what you love with others! Angela Duckworth's writing draws you into others stories and inspires you to continue to build your own story. I enjoyed learning about how the combination of passion and perseverance creates an environment where we can grow to be our best.

Book Description:

In this instant New York Times bestseller, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows anyone striving to succeed—be it parents, students, educators, athletes, or business people—that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit.” Drawing on her own powerful story as the daughter of a scientist who frequently noted her lack of “genius,” Duckworth, now a celebrated researcher and professor, describes her early eye-opening stints in teaching, business consulting, and neuroscience, which led to the hypothesis that what really drives success is not “genius” but a unique combination of passion and long-term perseverance.
